INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Vero Beach landed its third commercial, passenger direct flight carrier – American Airlines – with flights from Charlotte, North Carolina to the city starting February 12, according to the Vero Beach Regional Airport. The announcement comes about a month after the Vero Beach Regional Airport acquired its second airline service JetBlue.
“We are excited to welcome American Airlines’ new service to North Carolina,” Todd Scher, director of the Vero Beach Regional Airport, said in a statement. “This new route not only provides greater convenience but also enhances business and leisure opportunities between Vero Beach and one of the region’s major hubs to connect travelers to the world.”
American Airlines officials made the announcement Friday in a news release. American Airlines’ flights from Vero Beach will travel to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where the airline operates more than 670 daily flights to 170-plus destinations in 27 countries.
Officials said the latest airline addition to Vero Beach will boost tourism and the local economy.
“We’re not just launching a new service,” Scher said. “We’re showcasing Vero Beach’s trajectory as a competitive, connected, and thriving, community. Improved connectivity ensures that our local businesses, residents, and tourism ecosystem remain resilient and prosperous.”
American Airlines’ flights to and from Charlotte will offer nonstop service seven days a week, Scher said. Details on the price for one-way fares were not immediately available. It was unclear if the flights will be seasonal or year-round.
“As Florida’s largest airline, American takes pride in providing travelers unparalleled access to destinations around the country and the world and we are thrilled to bring new service to Vero Beach,” Jordan Pack, American Airlines’ Director of Domestic Network Planning, said in a statement. “Our flight to Charlotte is designed to maximize nationwide connectivity, helping bring tourists to the region’s relaxing atmosphere and beautiful beaches. For local residents, American’s service provides the ease and convenience of flying out of their home airport to destinations across our network with just one stop.”
American Airlines will use the CRJ900 planes, which has a capacity of 76-to-79 seats, according to airline officials.
Tickets will go on sale this Monday, Sept. 15. Interested buyers can visit aa.com or the American Airlines mobile app to book flights.
