Guests at the Vero Beach Heritage Center and Citrus Museum kicked up their boot heels during the Indian River County Cattlewomen’s second annual Hoedown to celebrate the area’s agricultural heritage dating back to the 1500s when cattle was first deposited on our soil by Spanish explorers.

Cowpokes and city slickers enjoyed an evening filled with music and dancing, including some Boot Scootin’ Boogie, food and libations, and an auction to raise funds for scholarships.

Attendees tipped their hats in support of the Cattlewomen’s commitment to promote and preserve the cattle industry through education and community engagement.

The Cattlewomen collaborate with the Florida Cattlemen’s Association and Florida Beef Council to preserve the beef industry by sharing its history, heritage and ranch lifestyle, and its beneficial impact on the environment.

“It’s both an honor and a privilege to stand before you today as we come together to celebrate the rich heritage of the local cattle industry while we’re supporting a cause that’s close to our hearts, providing scholarships to the local youth,” said Anna Kirkland, president.

“Today, we aim to raise awareness about the exceptional quality and value of Florida beef. Our state is home to the dedicated ranchers who work tirelessly to provide delicious and nutritious food and sustain our vibrant agriculture community,” she added.

By supporting Florida beef, said Kirkland, “We are not only advocating for the health of our families but also strengthening our local economy and preserving our way of life.”

Kirkland said that scholarship applications will be made available in April.

“It’s our mission to invest in the education of our children. The scholarships we raise today will empower local students to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals. Together, we can provide the essential resources that foster their growth and development.”
