Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital Announces New Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Vero Beach, Fla., August 19, 2024 – Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital has appointed Richard Rothman, M.D., as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, effective immediately. Dr. Rothman transitions from his interim role to a permanent position, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to the hospital and the community it serves.

Dr. Rothman will also continue his pivotal role as the Chief Medical Operations Officer for the Florida Market, overseeing the innovative Hospital Care At HomeSM program. As a founder of this program, he has been instrumental in delivering acute-level hospital care to patients’ homes, a model that successfully launched at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in 2023 and has since expanded to other Cleveland Clinic facilities.

Throughout his tenure at Cleveland Clinic Florida, Dr. Rothman has held significant leadership positions, including Vice Chief of Integrated Hospital Care Institute and Institute Chair of Hospital Medicine. He joined Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital as a hospitalist 10 years ago, and he has since been a resident of the Treasure Coast, where he enjoys spending time with his two daughters, Madison and Emily.

Dr. Rothman has published in national peer-reviewed medical journals on topics of medical care delivery, sustainable hospital care, and acute conditions such as cardiomyopathy. His educational background is equally impressive, having earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, completed his residency at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts, and a post-doctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is a diplomate in Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine and an active member of both the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
