VERO BEACH, FL, May 20, 2024 – United Way of Indian River County hosted its highly anticipated Second Annual Trike Wars and Block Party on May 10, 2024. The event brought together donors, volunteers, workplaces, and funded partners to celebrate the successful conclusion of United Way’s Annual Campaign, which raises funds to support vital programs improving the health, education, and financial stability of our community.

“Our Thank You Celebration and Block Party is a testament to the incredible spirit of generosity and community collaboration that defines United Way. It’s inspiring to see individuals, organizations, and businesses come together to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need,” said Jeff Petersen. “As Board Chair, I am humbled by the collective impact we’ve achieved and energized by the continued dedication of our supporters.”

The festivities kicked off with a heartwarming rendition of the National Anthem by Casey Watkins, a Gifford Middle School student. The event was presented by Grand Prix Sponsor, Gould Cooksey Fennell, and featured Teams from Torchbearer workplaces, those who have pledged $12,000 in employee and corporate giving, competing in an exhilarating three-person relay.

There were four heats, each with three teams in a three-person relay. Wes Samons helped teams get their engines revved at the starting line and Brian Bryant from Runner’s Depot flagged down the winners. The three fastest teams overall advanced to the final heat. Teams from various organizations, including Publix, Northern Trust, and Merrill Lynch, competed for the title of Trike Wars Champion. The special Community Team raffle winners, Tisha Lowery, Joshua Brown, and James Harper, not only won the raffle but also emerged victorious in the entire race, showcasing the spirit of teamwork and community engagement.

The Thank You Celebration and Block Party signifies the culmination of United Way’s Annual Campaign, honoring the volunteers, donors, workplaces, funded partners, and community members for their steadfast support of its mission. Alongside the exhilarating races, attendees enjoyed a myriad of activities including a 50/50 raffle benefiting United Way’s programs, a bounce house for the kids, and street bar hosted by Sailfish Brewery Vero Beach, accompanied by vibrant tunes from 60 West.
