Coming Up! ‘Jersey Boys’ just one of many good-time options

Riverside Theatre opens “Jersey Boys,” the award-winning musical about the Four Seasons musical quartet. It runs Jan. 2-28 with performances at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Wednesdays, select Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Bark in the Park runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Riverside Park. This 12th annual free event includes vendors, dog shows and K-9 demos. There will also be lure runs, a dog costume contest, a kids’ zones and food trucks, beer and liquor kiosks, and so much more. The Emerson Center kicks into gear Saturday with “Perfect Together,” which begins at 7 p.m. This show imagines Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra performing together. It stars Susan Ashley and Tony Sands as the two iconic singers. Tickets are $35 to $50. The next day, the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra’s “The Best of Country Music” begins 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Emerson Center. This concert stars Sarah Purser, who is the education director for Orlando Opera and who has been a featured soloist with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park; and Andrew LeJeune, who has performed in musicals at theaters around Central Florida and performs at Universal Studios. The concert will feature hits by great artists such as Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Kenny Rogers and many more. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. Vero Beach Opera kicks off its season with the fully staged original production of Mozart’s opera “Don Giovanni” on Sunday at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. The opera is sung in Italian with English supertitles over the stage. It is directed by artistic director Russell Franks and the music directed by Gregory Buchalter, who will conduct the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. The chorus master is Anthony Baron. It stars Eleomar Cuello, an award-winning baritone who was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition at Lincoln Center. He makes his Met Opera debut later this season in “Carmen.” Sunday’s production also features Maria Brea, Shaina Martinez, Kenneth Stavert, Evelyn Saavedra, Joshua Wheeker, Luis Alejandro Orozco and Andrew W. The Gainesville Brass Quintet performs 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach. Formed in 1985, the Gainesville Brass Quintet has performed light classics from the Baroque through modern eras. Sunday’s concert will also feature the group’s “Navy Hymn,” “Catwalk Blues,” “Salsa” and more. The group is led by trumpet player Joseph Jamerson. Admittance is free. The 1715 Fleet Society will hold its conference and meeting from Monday, Jan. 8, to Wednesday, Jan. 10. The three-day event includes coin and artifact appraisals, book signings and guest speakers talking about shipwreck treasure and topics related to the 1715 Fleet and other shipwrecks. It begins with a free meet and greet where you can browse books, speak with authors, engage in a “show and tell” where you can bring in coins and other conference-related found items to get a professional opinion about their value. That runs 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Heritage Center, 2140 14th Ave., Vero Beach. The speaker agenda runs 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesdays, Jan. 9 and Jan. 10, at the Costa d’Este Beach Resort and Spa, 3244 Ocean Dr., Vero Beach.
