Vero Beach woman killed in motorcycle crash in Brevard County

BREVARD COUNTY — A Vero Beach motorcyclist was killed after slamming into the back of a pickup truck on the morning of New Year’s Eve, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said. The name of the driver – a 36-year-old woman – was not publicly released.

“(The motorcyclist) failed to stop for (the pickup) stopped ahead,” troopers said in a crash report. “As a result, the front of (the motorcycle) struck the rear of (the pickup).”

The driver of the pickup – a 75-year-old Malabar man – was not hurt, troopers said.

The two-vehicle wreck happened about 11:53 a.m. Sunday at State Road A1A and Moonlight Drive, south of Melbourne Beach. The woman was headed northbound on the 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle along State Road A1A.

The Malabar man – driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado – was stopped in the northbound lane ahead of the motorcycle when the collision occurred. The woman was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck, the report showed.

Troopers said the woman was taken to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, where doctors pronounced her dead. Troopers continue to investigate the deadly crash.
