INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Two cold weather shelters are scheduled to open this weekend as the county prepares to experience the coldest weather of the winter season. Wind chill values were expected to reach below 40 degrees overnight Saturday, meteorologists said.
The Source, a local Christian outreach ministry that serves the homeless, will have 51 beds available from 9 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the Indian River County Emergency Services Department. Those planning on attending should arrive by 9 p.m. and registration is on site and on a first-come first-serve basis.
Light meals will be provided, emergency service officials said. The Source is located at 1015 Commerce Avenue in Vero Beach.

The Salvation Army, an international charitable organization, will have 40 beds available from 6 p.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. the next morning, emergency service officials said. Registration is on site and will be on a first-come first-serve basis.
Comfort kits with light meals will be provided, emergency service officials said. The local Salvation Army branch is located at 2655 5th Street Southwest in south county.
