Patricia O’Hara, 89, Vero Beach

January 20, 1934 – July 15, 2023

Patricia O’Hara, a resident of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Julio Cocciolone, and her second husband, Robert O’Hara.

She was born in White Plains, New York in 1934 and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret Reedy Bachman. She was a 1951 graduate of St. Gabriel High School in New Rochelle, New York.  She was employed by Joseph E. Seagram until her retirement and move to Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania in 1994.

Patty was a very giving person who loved to help others.  She was active in the Hideout for many years, volunteering her time at St. Thomas More Church and St. Mary’s Church, as well as at the Honesdale and Scranton Hospice. After moving to Florida in 2013, she continued her volunteering with Vero Beach Hospice, where many of her prayer shawls were donated. She enjoyed reading and crafts, and she especially enjoyed social activities such as working at the Food Pantry, cheerleading and being a member of the Welcome Committee in her Acts Retirement Life Community.

Surviving are her four children, Bob Cocciolone of Tampa, FL, Carole Freund (Robbie) of Hailey, ID, Susan Smith (Dan) of Larchmont, NY, and Bill Cocciolone of Kings Park, NY.  Her grandchildren, Alison and Brendan Freund, Melissa Luzzi and Danny Smith Jr, Taylor and Jackson Cocciolone will all miss the often-silly antics of their fun-loving grandmother. Patty was excited to be a great-grandmother to Sonia, Madison, Bennett and Neil.

She leaves behind sisters Mary Michaud from Albuquerque, NM, and Elizabeth Jacobson of Carmichael, CA and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest “Buddy” Bachman.

Lee Wood Setzer, 68, Vero Beach

June 8, 1955 – July 17, 2023

Lee Wood Setzer, 68, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on July 17, 2023. He was born on June 8, 1955, in Vero Beach, FL, to the late Marvin Hill Setzer and Marjorie A Setzer.

Lee was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. Lee will be remembered for his resilience and his ability to find joy in the simplest of things.

Lee is survived by his sister, Belinda Setzer, his niece Mariah Fretwell, his niece Riley Fretwell, and his brother Robert McIver. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lee attended Vero Beach Sr. High, where he graduated as part of the Class of 1973. He also had the opportunity to further his education by attending Wabash College in Wabash, IN.

Lee proudly served his country in the US Army 82nd Airborne, where he demonstrated his dedication and love for his country.

After his military service, Lee embarked on a career in law enforcement.  He also worked as a clerk and later as a private security officer.

In his spare time, Lee enjoyed fishing, finding peace in the great outdoors, and cracking open a cold one.

A Celebration of Life for Lee Setzer will be announced at a later date, allowing friends and family to come together and honor his memory.

Lee Wood Setzer will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May his memory live on in our hearts forever.

Elaine Hom, 53, Florida

February 7, 1970 – July 19, 2023

Elaine Hom, 53, passed away peacefully Wednesday July 19th, 2023 in Vero Beach Fl.

She was born in 1973, in Manhattan, New York, to Shuet Har and Yoek Chong. Elaine graduated from John P. Stevens High School and went on Rutgers University.

She lived her life in New York, New Jersey and Florida.

Elaine enjoyed reading science fiction and romances and liked knitting and crocheting.

Elaine was a faithful New York Yankee fan and loved to watch her favorite players, Bucky Dent and Derek Jeter.
Elaine is survived by her father: Yoek Chong, two brothers: Vincent and Joseph.

Elaine will be deeply missed by many people.

Barbara F. Galucci, 81, Vero Beach

May 12, 1942 – July 19, 2023

Barbara F. Galucci, 81, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

Born on May 12, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel (Smith) Ballantine.

Barbara loved to crochet, and she enjoyed decorating and spending time at her home. She was a beautiful and giving person who will be missed by her many, many friends.  She loved animals, and especially loved to spoil her Isla and Lady Lola.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Thomas Galucci; three children, Gina (Gary) Salarno, Thomas (Mickey) Galucci; and Dawn (Paul) Schultz; and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2PM on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2085 Tallahassee Avenue in Vero Beach.  Rev. Frank D’Amato will officiate.

At a later date, Barbara will be laid to rest at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.

Shirley Ann Halliday, 91, Vero Beach

November 17, 1931 – July 21, 2023

Shirley Ann Halliday, 91, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed from this life on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach.

Born on November 17, 1931, in Galeton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James R. and Veronica M. (Shalkowski) Sirianni.  Her husband, Robert “Doc” Halliday, preceded her in death in 2006.

Shirley had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1972, having relocated from Binghamton, New York with her husband and three children.  In Binghamton, she worked in marketing for Link Division of the Singer Company on such projects as the Apollo Space Program and Man in the Sea Program.  While in Vero Beach, she was employed as the office Manager and Secretary with FlightSafely International for 12 years; associated with students and personnel from all over the world, assisting with their social, academic and housing needs.  In 1989, she received her Realtor License and continued to work until 2021.

She was a member of the Realtors Association of Indian River County, the Florida Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors.  She had also been a member (and active fundraiser) with the Pilot Club of Vero Beach since 1980, serving as President from 1986-87 and 2002-2003.  Shirley also contributed to the Big Brothers and Sisters of Indian River County through mentoring in the public school system.   Additionally, she was a member of the Treasure Coast Rock & Gem Society, having served as president in 1995.  She also enjoyed golf, traveling, as well as rocks and minerals collection and identification.

Shirley had been active with St. Helen Catholic Church where she worked with adults and children and the Neighborhood Apostolate Program.  Later in her life she attended Mass at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach.

She is survived by her two daughters, Beth (Dale) Moyers of Roanoke, West Virginia, and Kim (Kerry) Smith of Sarasota, Florida; and one son Robert (Kimberly) Halliday, of Vero Beach.  Additionally she is survived by her grandson Adam and his wife Angelica, and her two great grandchildren, Aaron and Jovana.

Friends are invited to join the family beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th Street in Vero Beach.  An informal sharing of remembrances will take place at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, after which a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am at St. Helen Catholic Church, immediately adjacent to the funeral home.  Interment will be held privately at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.

Carl Chop Jr., 84

March 21, 1939 – July 26, 2023

Carl Chop Jr passed away July 26, 2023 at the age of 84.  Carl will be buried at the St. George’s Independent Serbian Orthodox Cemetery outside of Pittsburgh.

Carl is survived by his sister Joanne Raleigh of East Millsboro, PA and many others that he considered like family.

Carl was an accomplished electrician from his days on the naval ships; he served on the USS Kiowa ATF-72, USS Orion AS-18, and the USS Simone Lake AS-33, AS EM-2.  Carl passed along his knowledge and skill working as a Merchant Mariner with the military Sealift Command as an Atlantic Chief Electrician.

Carl was kind and giving, and looked for ways to be helpful to others.  When Carl was able, he would volunteer his time with The Indian River County Food Bank.

In August of 2018, Carl made the decision to accept Jesus as his Savior, and was baptized at Good Shepherd Church of God as a public profession of his faith in Jesus. Two of Carl’s favorite scriptures were from Psalm 139 and 1Corinthians 13.

Carl’s sister Joanne and friends would like to thank all his caregivers for their dedication and support.

Shirley Whitford Law, 92, Vero Beach

August 3, 1931 – August 3, 2023

Shirley Whitford Law was born August 3rd, 1931 and passed away on August 3, 2023.   Shirley was raised in Washington, NC, and graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She met her husband on a blind date, but was mistakenly set up with her friend’s date! However, it was magic from the start, and she married  Donald Teets Law Jr. (pre-deceased 1990) and lived in Demarest, NJ before moving to Tenafly, NJ in 1973. Shirley taught 5th Grade at the Alpine School in Alpine, NJ for 10 years.

Donald and Shirley were avid golfers, (Shirley had 2 hole in ones) and were members of the Knickerbocker Country Club and Englewood Field Club.

Shirley moved to Vero Beach, Fl in 2002, and continued her golfing endeavors at Vero Beach Country Club. She is survived by daughter Louise Law Hoyle, grandchildren Alexander John Hoyle, Elizabeth Whitford Hoyle, and Hadley Robert Hoyle; and son, Donald Teets Law III and wife, Rita Law, and grandsons Donald Teets Law IV, and Frank Whitford Law.

A private Service will be held at Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home.
