Vero Beach man killed in rollover crash Friday

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 25-year-old Vero Beach man was killed late Friday after his pickup truck drifted off the roadway, overturned into a canal and landed on a nearby driveway, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

This is the second fatal wreck to occur this week in Indian River County.

Friday’s incident happened at 6:27 p.m. along 41st Street, just east of 60th Court and northwest of Vero Beach. The man was traveling eastbound in a gray 2001 Chevrolet Silverado when the truck veered to the right off the street and onto the grass shoulder, troopers said.

Troopers said the Chevy spun in a clockwise direction and rolled over into the canal on the south side of 41st Street. The vehicle then flipped onto a driveway extending over the canal.

The man was taken by ambulance to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where doctors pronounced him dead, troopers and fire rescue officials said. Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the deadly crash.
