Announcing the 18th Annual Waterlily Celebration at McKee Botanical Garden

WATERLILIES PUT ON A SPECTACULAR SHOW OF COLOR AND FRAGRANCE DURING MCKEE BOTANICAL GARDEN’S 18TH ANNUAL WATERLILY CELEBRATION

VERO BEACH, FL –May 31, 2023 – On Saturday, June 17, McKee Botanical Garden will host its 18th Annual Waterlily Celebration featuring one of the state’s largest collections of waterlilies. This collection showcases both hardy and tropical waterlilies in a spectacular array of colors, textures, and fragrances. These aquatic beauties love the warmer temperatures and bloom from late spring through the fall.

McKee’s waterlily collection consists of over 80 varieties with over 300 potted and 100 free-range plants.  Take advantage of the Garden opening early at 8:30 am during this one-day event which offers our visitors a rare opportunity to admire the night-blooming varieties before they retreat and a chance to enjoy the day-bloomers.

The event will also showcase local artists creating original works of art “en plein air” throughout the Garden. A variety of aquatic plants, bromeliads, and orchids will be available for purchase, as well as wire art and wood crafts. Observe hands-on repotting demonstrations and speak with our plant experts about the important role these unique aquatic plants play in protecting our ecosystem.

This annual event also features the annual waterlily photo contest which draws hundreds of photographers, artists, horticultural enthusiasts, McKee members and visitors from all over. Photo submissions will be on display during the event in the historic Hall of Giants. Visitors will have an opportunity to vote for the “People’s Choice” photo. For more information about entering the photo contest, please visit https://mckeegarden.org/class/18th-annual-waterlily-celebration/.

A McKee membership or paid admission also allows guests to enjoy our current exhibition “Playing with Gravity” by Master Balancer Adam Conard (ZOTO). This exhibit will showcase the ancient art of stone balancing and will be on display throughout the Garden through July 30.  These are true balances; no glue or other attachments are used.

Event Hours: 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. (The Garden will remain open until 5:00 pm with the last admission ticket sold at 4:00 pm). Admission:  $15 Adults, $13 Seniors (65+)/Youth (13-17), $10 Children (ages 2-12).  McKee members and children under 2 are free.  For more information, call 772-794-0601.
