Local pet sitter earns certification to ease pets’ fear, anxiety during visits

Vero Beach, FL – Pet-sitting visits can be stressful for many pets, but pet owners need not fear if their pets are cared for by Phyllis Turner in Vero Beach and Sebastian. That’s because she is part of an impactful initiative known as Fear Free®, which is designed to ease the fear, anxiety, and stress so many pets experience while their humans are away.

Fear Free’s pet sitter certification program equips pet sitters with a scientifically sound knowledge based in animal body language, dog walking, behavior and training basics, enrichment, home life, travel, administering medications, and more so that they can offer top-level Fear Free care to pets and provide owners with basic support and advice.

Ms. Turner said, “This certification has been on my bucket list since starting my business; Wanderlust Elite Pet Services over four years ago. I’ve heard such great things about it and the mission and core values match the way I’ve always interacted with my pet clients. Avoiding approaches that rely on fear, force, or discomfort to get the animal to comply or to stop unwanted behaviors.”

Founded by Dr. Marty Becker and developed by hundreds of experts in behavior, medicine, and handling, Fear Free® offers online and in-person education to veterinary professionals, the pet professional community, animal shelter staff and volunteers, and pet owners. Fear Free provides both professionals and pet lovers alike with the knowledge and tools to look after a pet’s physical and emotional wellbeing.

“Providing pet professionals with the tools they need to ease this burden of fear and anxiety for pets is the pinnacle of my decades-long veterinary career,” said Dr. Becker, who was dubbed “America’s Veterinarian” by Dr. Oz and appeared on Good Morning America for 17 years. “Pet professionals are hungry for this information. Animals and their humans need and deserve it.”

To become certified, pet sitters are required to complete a comprehensive educational course and exam. They also have to take continuing education to remain certified.

This training and certification have empowered me to update my policies and terms and has set the wheels in motion for even furthering my education with Fear Free and networking with other Fear Free Pet Professionals in the area.

Pet owners who would like their pets to experience the Fear Free difference can contact Phyllis Turner by text or calling 772-494-9733.

About Phyllis Turner

As a professional pet sitter, it’s important to me to take advantage of opportunities that demonstrate my commitment to the profession and pursue educational opportunities and trainings that will enable me to respond appropriately to the various pet-sitting situations I encounter and to be able to answer questions or concerns posed by my clients. I completed extensive training through Pet Sitters International and carry the official designation of “Certified Professional Pet Sitter (CPPS).” I am also certified in Pet CPR & First Aid, am bonded, insured, and can provide (annually) proof of a clear criminal history to my clients. In addition to being a U.S. Air Force Veteran, offering third-party credentials that verify I have a history of honesty and integrity is critical to me because as your pet care provider, I realize you are granting me access to your home & putting me in charge of your beloved animal companions and hopefully, this gives you additional peace of mind.
