Nutcracker on the Indian River
The full theatrical production returns with performances in Vero Beach and Palm Beach Gardens
Ballet Vero Beach is thrilled to announce the return of the full theatrical production of Nutcracker on the Indian River (not seen since in its entirety for three years)! Performances include venues in both Indian River and Palm Beach counties, as well as the return of Nutcracker For All, a subsidized abbreviated Accessible/Family Friendly Series production.
Nutcracker on the Indian River retains all the whimsy and magic of the original ballet, but moves the action to the year Vero was founded (1919). By taking the ballet’s heroine, Marie, on a holiday journey from New York to Florida, Fifth Avenue Mansions, Grand Central Station, and rail cars become settings. Instead of a second act featuring candy characters, Marie dreams of the shores of the Indian River Lagoon, and is entertained by all manner of local flora and fauna. From land crabs to manatees and river otters to bougainvillea, our production has become an instant classic which takes all the magic of the stage and uses that magic to both entertain and inspire.
This year’s production features more than twenty professional dancers and more than seventy-five student dancers (including young people representing Sebastian Elementary School, our area’s very own Elementary School for the arts). For the first time ever, the entire live production will be seen outside of Indian River County due to an ongoing partnership between Ballet Vero Beach and the prestigious Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens.
Public performances are slated for 7:00pm on December 9 in Benjamin Hall, on the campus of the Benjamin School, located at 4875 Grandiflora Road in Palm Beach Gardens, as well as 7:30pm December 30 and 2:00pm December 31 at the VBHS Performing Arts Center (1707 16th Street) in Vero Beach. Tickets range from $10-$75.
Nutcracker for All returns at 7:30pm December 29 also at the VBHS Performing Arts Center. Nutcracker for All is an abbreviated Accessible/Family friendly version of the production geared towards individuals with differing abilities and families with young children (under the age of 6). The production features modified audio and visual effects as well as increased accessible seating and sections for those who might not be able to remain seated throughout the performance. Ballet Vero Beach is thrilled to be the only arts organization in the area to off a full Accessible/Family Friendly Series which offers professional level arts experiences to underserved segments of our community. All tickets for Nutcracker for All are subsidized at $10 thanks to the generosity of Ballet Vero Beach’s many funders and donors.
