INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 31-year-old woman was jailed this week after deputies said she and her boyfriend – an inmate at the county jail – tried to sneak drugs into the facility in August. The pair conspired to smuggle paper laced with ecstasy into the jail, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies received a tip that the pair was trying to disguise the narcotics as legal mail, officials said.

The woman – identified as Christine Julia Ammon, of Wilton Manors – was charged on Monday with sale, manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to sell or manufacture ecstasy; sale, delivery, manufacture or possession with intent to sell, deliver or manufacture cathinone; introduction of contraband into a detention facility and unlawful use of a two-way communications device. Ammon was held Tuesday at the Indian River County Jail on $200,000 bond.
Ammon’s boyfriend – Alexander Gary McKay, 27 – was already in custody at the county jail when he was charged Oct. 21 with the same offenses, officials said. McKay remained held Tuesday at the county jail without bond.
In mid-August, new technology at the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office alerted deputies that an inmate was possibly trying to sneak drugs into the jail, officials said. Deputies said they learned that McKay and Ammon were planning on converting narcotics into drug-infused paper and make it appear as legal mail.
“As the fake legal mail arrived, it was immediately intercepted by our team and sent to the local crime lab where it tested positive for MDMA (commonly known as ecstasy),” sheriff’s officials previously said. “Fingerprints from the mail were also recovered which led to the positive identification of Ammon.”
Ammon has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Jan. 12, 2023, court records show. McKay has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Dec. 2.
