INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 62-year-old Vero Beach man died late Monday after he was struck by a sports utility vehicle while crossing the street, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
FHP troopers are not releasing the names of crash victims for privacy reasons. The SUV driver, a 41-year-old Vero Beach woman, was not hurt, troopers said.
The collision happened about 8:45 p.m. at 12th Street and Old Dixie Highway, west of U.S. 1. Troopers said the SUV was headed eastbound on 12th Street in the outside lane.
The man tried to walk southbound across 12th Street when the front of the SUV struck him, highway troopers said. The man was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Troopers continue to investigate the deadly crash.
