1 critical after being struck by vehicle; 8th Street reopen

Correction: Indian River County sheriff’s officials originally said a person was killed late Tuesday. That information has been corrected.  

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — One person was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle following a crash that closed 8th Street late Tuesday, Indian River County sheriff’s officials said.

The wreck happened Tuesday evening in the 600 block of 8th Street, near Pemberly Palms apartment complex, deputies said. Authorities closed the roadway between 6th Avenue and the entrance to the complex.

The person was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, sheriff’s officials said. Further details about the individual were not immediately available.

The roadway was reopened by 8:07 p.m., sheriff’s officials said. Florida Highway Patrol troopers were investigating the cause of the crash.
