Update: 53rd Street at 43rd Avenue was reopen by early Monday after being closed following a fatal motorcycle crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol traffic crash map.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A fatal motorcycle crash closed the westbound lanes on 53rd Street late Sunday, Indian River County sheriff’s officials said. Investigators did not immediately identify the age or gender of the person killed.
The deadly wreck happened about 9 p.m. at 43rd Avenue and 53rd Street, just west of U.S. 1, according to the Florida Highway Patrol traffic crash map. Deputies shut down the roadway in the immediate area as they investigated the incident.

Two fire rescue trucks were still at the scene as of 10:30 p.m. Sheriff’s officials said Florida Highway Patrol will take the lead in investigating the cause of the crash.
It was unclear when the roadway was expected to reopen.
