SEBASTIAN — Treasure Coast Elementary School shut its doors Wednesday and will remain closed through next week after officials reported several COVID-19 cases among employees and staff members.
“We closed due to the high rate and quick spread of COVID-19 cases among students and staff,” Indian River County spokesperson Cristen Maddux said.
The school, located at 8955 85th Street in Sebastian, was expected to reopen Sept. 13, Maddux said. The school district’s food and nutrition department will be providing meals at the campus for students in need.
Laptops will also be distributed to families, Maddux said.
Treasure Coast Elementary is the second county public school to close after reports of COVID-19 cases among students and staff. Officials closed Beachland Elementary School last Friday after 23 students and 14 teachers tested positive for the virus.
Treasure Coast Elementary has 664 students enrolled, Maddux said. Students will still be able to access online instruction and assignments through Canvas and iReady.
