A West Palm Beach man indicted earlier this week in connection with a fatal drug fentanyl overdose involving an Indian River County woman last year, has been booked into the local jail.
The grand jury on Tuesday ruled for a true bill against 36-year-old Jahvon Lerenta McFarlane on a charge of first-degree murder unlawful distribution of a controlled substance. McFarlane, who has the alias Jahvon Henry, was extradited on Thursday from Palm Beach County to the Indian River County Jail.
McFarlane was held Friday at the county jail without bond. McFarlane was one of several suspects jailed this month for drug offenses involving fentanyl.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic pain reliever that is among the most common drugs involved in overdose deaths.
The woman’s fatal overdose happened May 9, 2020, Indian River County deputies said. Deputies said the woman was found dead in her home.
The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that the woman’s death was caused by acute fentanyl and cocaine intoxication, sheriff’s officials said. Indian River and Palm Beach County deputies determined the woman got the narcotics from McFarlane.
McFarlane was indicted and then taken into custody by Palm Beach County deputies. McFarlane has an arraignment at 8:45 a.m. Aug. 13 at the Indian River County Courthouse, court records show.
