Afternoon update, May 13, 2021

Indian River County verified 26 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, according to the Florida Department of Health county report. This raises the total number of county cases to 12,618, while the death toll remained at 303.

The numbers in the reports are provisional and subject to change. Health officials said 125 out of the 303 Indian River County deaths were at long-term care facilities.

There have been 887 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Indian River County, health officials said. The number of hospitalizations and county cases are both cumulative.

For the Indian River County cases among residents, 8,644 were white, 1,267 were black, 1,130 were listed as “other” and 1,467 were listed as “unknown.”

Statewide, the number of COVID-19 cases increased to 2,282,613, health officials said. The number of virus-related deaths increased to 36,648.

Indian River County verified eight new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, along with one new death, according to the Florida Department of Health county report. This raises the total number of county cases to 12,592, while the death toll increased to 303.

The numbers in the reports are provisional and subject to change. Health officials said 125 out of the 303 Indian River County deaths were at long-term care facilities.

There have been 885 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Indian River County, health officials said. The number of hospitalizations and county cases are both cumulative.

For the Indian River County cases among residents, 8,628 were white, 1,264 were black, 1,130 were listed as “other” and 1,460 were listed as “unknown.”

Statewide, the number of COVID-19 cases increased to 2,278,549, health officials said. The number of virus-related deaths increased to 36,598.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Boaters, swimmers, fishers and others at Stick Marsh North will need to briefly put their water-related activities on hold. The reason - officials have found harmful algae that could possibly make you and your pets sick. Toxic blue-green algae detected in St. Johns River in IRC

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Boaters and swimmers will need to avoid hitting the water on the St. Johns River after health officials detected a toxic blue-green algae bloom last week. St. Johns River is located two miles northeast of Blue Cypress Lake, a popular recreational wildlife preserve about 30 minutes from Vero Beach.
