Vero Beach, Fort Pierce tie daily heat records

Two Treasure Coast cities on Sunday tied daily heat records dating back nearly 30 years ago.

The sun scorched Vero Beach and Fort Pierce as residents and tourists made their way to local eateries, beaches and gift shops. The temperature in Vero Beach climbed to 90 degrees, while the heat in Fort Pierce reached 91 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

Both towns recorded the same temperatures for March 28 back in 1994, meteorologists said.

The temperature will cool off tonight, dropping near 66 degrees in Vero Beach, forecasters said. The daily heat, however, will continue throughout the week.

The warm weather will last from Monday through Thursday with temperatures hitting the low-to-mid 80s in Vero Beach, meteorologists said. Temperatures will bottom out in the mid-to-high 60s in the evenings throughout most of the week.
