Dodgertown Elementary student tests positive for virus; others to quarantine

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A Dodgertown Elementary School student tested positive for COVID-19, prompting school officials to place 12 other students on a two-week quarantine Thursday, authorities said.

This is the 15th incident at Indian River County schools where students were told to quarantine after COVID-19 cases were reported. To date, 239 students and four staff members have been placed on a two-week quarantine since the start of the school year.

This is the first positive case reported at Dodgertown Elementary School. The Florida Department of Health identified 12 other students who came in close contact with the student with a positive test.

School officials called the families of the students and told them the children will need to stay home and monitor their symptoms, the School District of Indian River County said in a statement. The pupil with a positive test was also instructed to self-quarantine.

All Dodgertown Elementary School families and staff members were notified of the incident. The students instructed to stay home will continue school through virtual learning, officials said.

Custodial services continue to disinfect and sanitize all areas of the campus.
