Donald Clinton Lane, 81, Vero Beach
Donald Clinton Lane, 81, of Vero Beach, passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 21, 2020, at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. he was born at home on a farm in Owen County, Ind., the fifth of six sons born to Julia (nee Reynolds) Lane and Frank Lane.
He attended Freedom School and graduated from Freedom High School. Following graduation, he worked on telephone line construction through out Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois and Minnesota.
While working in Minnesota, he met his future wife, Patricia Bonin. They were married in 1961 and settled in Lakeville, Minn. Of this marriage of 58 years, two children were born; Penny Sue Lane (Burris) and Michael Ryan Lane.
In 1964, the family moved to Spencer, Ind., where his brother Bill who was in the home building and remodeling business employed him.
In 1968, Don and his youngest brother Wally became partners in D& W Home Builders in Spencer.
Don was baptized into the Christian faith and became a member of the First Methodist Church in Spencer, Ind. After retiring, Don and Pat moved to Dows, Iowa in 2001. Don became a member of the First Lutheran Church in 2002.
Don was active and involved member of Dows Development: a past trustee on Dows City Council; he also coached Little League baseball for several years while living in Spencer.
Don enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, drinking coffee with his friends, cooking and grilling and traveling by car though out Iowa and the United States.
He also enjoyed the time he spent in Vero Beach, Florida; reading detective novels and watching Indiana University and Big Ten Basketball.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia; daughter, Penny Lane Burris (husband, Frank), of Indianapolis, Ind.; and son, Michael Lane, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; his brother Bill’s wife, Freeda; brother Wally’s wife, Barbara; a step-grandson, step-great-grandson, many nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, and great-great niece and great-great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Julia (Reynolds) Lane; along with his five brothers, Charles (wife, Alma), Bill, Ed Harry, Wally; and son-in-law, Timothy Decker.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
