No injuries after car slams into vacant building in shopping plaza

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — No injuries were reported after a car slammed into a vacant building, shattering windows in a busy shopping plaza Friday, authorities said.

The incident happened shortly before noon Friday at the building in the 5400 block of 20th Street, Indian River County Sheriff’s spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. The driver was not hurt in the collision, Indian River County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Kyle Kofke said.

The vacant shopping space is located next to other businesses including Domino’s, Jimmy John’s and Cricket.

The crash destroyed two large windows and two small windows, jolting shattered pieces of glass toward the inside of the property. Authorities towed the car away from the scene by 2:30 p.m.

Ama Green Property Management crews were working to repair the damaged windows Friday afternoon. The estimated damage to the building was not immediately known.

Further details on the driver and what caused the collision were not immediately available.
