A St. Lucie West area man is in jail, facing charges of domestic violence after police say he stabbed his own brother in the head with a 12-inch chef’s knife.
Nicholas Baio, 18, and a Centennial High School student, was taken into custody last Friday morning and later placed in protective care under the Baker Act due to statements he made.
Baio told investigators he was “tired of his brother verbally abusing him” and that his brother – who is older than he – picks on him everyday. Baio called his brother a “bully,” according to the arrest report.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department responded to the home, located in the 34986 ZIP code, after the brothers’ mother called for help. Their address was redacted from the arrest report given the domestic violence nature of the case.
At the home, emergency personnel discovered the older brother with a 4-centimeter-long laceration to the back of his head.
The cut, according to the report, was deep, reaching to the skull. The brother also had a superficial laceration to his left arm.
Baio was found inside the home and he surrendered on his own, the report states.
The knife was recovered behind a neighbor’s house and collected as evidence.
Baio faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon – domestic violence. He is in the County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
