VERO BEACH — A 45-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman outside a library, was arrested early Friday, authorities said.
Vero Beach police arrested Carlos Tito Caban, of the 1500 block of 14th Avenue, Vero Beach, on a charge of sexual battery. Caban was being held Friday at the Indian River County Jail without bond until his first court appearance, scheduled for Saturday, officers said.
Police responded to reports of a sexual assault about 7 a.m. Friday just outside of the Indian River County Main Library, 1600 21st Street. A 44-year-old woman told officers a man, later identified as Caban, sexually battered her while she slept outside of the library, reports show.
It was unclear if the woman was homeless.
Police found Caban on the south side of the library and arrested him. A police news release stated Caban was 44 years old, but spokesman Brad Kmetz clarified that Caban was actually 45 years old.
No further details were immediately available.
