INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 25-year-old Home Depot cashier is suspected of allowing an unknown man to leave with more than $1,000 worth of items because he “wanted them for free,” reports show.
The man approached the cashier, later identified as Ty’keyah Marshall, and would tell her which items he was willing to pay for and which ones he wanted for free, authorities said. The thefts happened four times between April and May.
Marshall told deputies she was never in fear and was aware she would get in trouble at some point. She said she didn’t recognize the man.

Deputies arrested Marshall, of Fort Pierce, on charges of two counts each of grand theft more than $300 and theft. Marshall was released Tuesday from the Indian River County Jail on $6,000 bond.
The scam was discovered about 10 a.m. Monday when deputies were called to investigate a theft at Home Depot, 1885 58th Avenue. Deputies spoke with an asset protection manager.
The manager gave deputies surveillance video, pictures and receipts that show Marshall allowing the same unknown man to leave the store without paying for expensive items.
Marshall would not charge items that the man wanted for free. The man left with a total of $1,181 in unpaid merchandise, reports show.
Marshall was arrested and taken to the county jail. She has an arraignment at 8:30 a.m. June 27, court records show.
Details on if the man’s identity was discovered or if he was arrested were not available.
