JAZZ Orchestra presents ‘Big Band Favorites’ Oct. 22

VERO BEACH – “It don’t mean a thing, if it aint’ got that swing.”  The popular song lyric sums up the mindset of concert-goers to Big Band Favorites, the latest concert offering by the Space Coast Symphony JAZZ Orchestra.

The group will swing three decades of Big Band Era hits at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street, 32960.

Under the direction of Stetson University’s Dr. Patrick Hennessey, the JAZZ Orchestra’s play list will feature selections from the legendary band leaders Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington and more.  Jazz vocalist and recording artist, Lisa Kelly will join the group to sing Big Band Favorites.

$20 advance tickets for adults are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches).  Tickets at the door are $25.  The concert is free for those aged 18 and under or with a student ID.

Director of the Stetson University Jazz Ensemble, Dr. Patrick Hennessey is a musical clinician, adjudicator, educator and trombone player, whose performance experiences include Johnny Mathis, Jerry Lewis, the New York Tenors, the Alan Parsons Project, Celtic Thunder, and the Indigo Girls.

Veteran jazz band leader and SCSO musician, Dr. Patrick Hennessey has assembled a group of top musicians to perform Big Band Favorites.

“Once again, we have a ‘who’s who’ of seasoned jazz players,” said Hennessey. “Many of them have played with top bands and have mile-long musical resumes. And we’re delighted to be joined by jazz vocalist Lisa Kelly.  This is going to be one swinging concert.”
