Controlled burn set in Fellsmere

FELLSMERE — Residents may smell smoke in the air from a controlled burn, according to Florida Forest Service officials.

The 200-acre burn will take place from 9 a.m. to about 7 p.m. Friday at an agricultural area near State Road 60 and Blue Cypress Road. It’s located just west of the Blue Cypress Conservation Area and southeast of the Yeehaw Junction.

Forest Service spokeswoman Melissa Yunas said landowners have to call the agency in the morning to ask for a burn permit. Forest Service looks at weather conditions and humidity before it issues out permits.
