Jewelry, cash stolen in armed robbery

Gun fired during argument

VERO BEACH — Jewelry and about $300 in cash were stolen from a man during an armed robbery at his home.

Deputies responded to the incident Tuesday at the home in the 1900 block of 23rd Street Southwest, Vero Beach. A neighbor had called 911 and told them three men appeared to go in the house, did something and left.

When deputies got to the scene, nobody was home. But, they saw the front left window smashed in from the inside, deputies said.

A man who stays at the home pulled up 10 minutes later and spoke to deputies. He told them a man came to his home asking for clothes because he previously told the man he had a lot of used clothes in his garage.

The resident told the man no and the man began to leave and walk toward the road. When the resident was closing his front door, a second man pulled the door open and pointed a black pistol at the resident’s face.

He told the resident to give him everything, pointing to the man’s bracelet and two rings, deputies said. The man hit the resident in the back of the head with the gun, which left a cut. He also took about $300 in cash from the resident.

The two men walked the resident to the back room, where the resident tried taking the gun away from the second man. Then, a third man came into the room, pointed a black pistol at the resident and said “stop fighting, or we are going to kill you.”

The resident told deputies the two men with guns must have came from the left side of the home because he did not see them coming up. The three men then fled the home and ran west on 23rd Street Southwest, deputies said.
