Julia W. Horchler, 77, of Vero Beach, passed away at the Indian River Medical Center on Sept. 14, 2016.
She is survived by her daughter Laura Wetzel (Phil) of Ocean Isle, N.C.; son Christopher J. Liggett (Nancy) of Berryville, Va.; grandsons Christopher W. and Connor Liggett; and great-granddaughter Meredith Liggett.
Horchler was born on Dec. 10, 1938, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the daughter of the late Alton and Vera Styles.
She was an avid sailor and lived and cruised for several years with her husband Richard T. Horchler aboard their sailboat. Licensed and certified as a speech pathologist, she practiced full time in the Vero Beach area following Richard’s death in 1996.
Horchler was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, serving on key committees and working at events in the Fellowship’s Emerson Center.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
