Skeletonized remains found in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating and trying to identify “skeletonized remains” found Sept. 12 around 7:30 p.m.

The remains were found in the 2500 block of SW Old Dixie Highway, according to Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Lt. Eric Flowers. They were found in a tent in the woods. The subject is believed to be a homeless person based on the ID. Another homeless person found them.

Authorities are working to notify the next of kin, according to authorities. They believed they have a match, but are working to confirm and prove who it is.

“We have been working hard to track him down and every lead goes nowhere,” said Flowers. “He is a ghost.”
