Susan Carol MacKinnon Long, 71, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on Feb. 11, 2016, in the presence of her children at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim Craig and son-in-law, Troy, their children Lily Sue and Cody; as well as her son, Scott Long and daughter-in-law Linda, and their children Katie, Joanne, and Sarah. Other family include her cousins Fred and his wife, Nancy, and their children John and Duncan (he may be gone but he is not forgotten) and Tom Frazee and family.
Long was born to Thomas O. and Ruth (Keese) MacKinnon on Jan. 24, 1945. She was their only child, born and raised in Burlington, Vt. She was a loving mother of two, and an amazing grandmother to five. She lived in Vero Beach from 1984 until unable to care for herself, in January 2016.
She graduated in 1965 with her dental hygiene degree from University of Vermont and worked for Quality Dental in Fort Pierce until September 2015. She was a dedicated employee who loved, and was loved by, her patients.
She adored her beautiful cat, Zoe; loved to do the New York Times crossword puzzle; and beat all comers at Scrabble. We look forward to seeing her again as we praise our Lord together in heaven.
A small, informal memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016 at 6 p.m. on Memorial Island in Vero Beach. If you would like to make a donation on Sue’s behalf, please do so to your local Hospice House.
