POLICE: Stay inside, officers searching for shooting suspect

VERO BEACH —The Vero Beach Police Department is urging residents in the area of a shooting that occurred earlier today to stay indoors and for drivers to avoid the area while authorities search for suspects.

The Vero Beach Police Department made the announcement via social media, noting that the area in question includes 16th Street between 20th and 27th avenues and between 15th and 17th streets.

“We are currently looking for suspects in the area,” the agency reported. “If you are in that area, please stay indoors.”

The department is investigating a shooting that occurred this morning in the area of 16th Street and Highland Ave.

Authorities issued a “be on the lookout” for a vehicle that might have been involved in the incident and has since located it.

No injuries were reported during the incident which occurred around 11:30 a.m., according to Public Information Officer Anna Carden.

The shots sounded as though they came from the rear of an apartment complex possibly from the laundry area. Shell casings have been recovered, according to Ofc. Carden.

The area surrounding the apartment complex has been restricted due to the criminal investigation, however the road remains open to drivers.
