SEBASTIAN — A student who stood out in the classroom, on the athletic field and in service to others took home Thomas University’s prestigious President’s Award during TU’s annual Honors Reception held Friday, May 6, at the Best Western Rose City Conference Center in Thomasville.
Andrew Berg, of Sebastian, took home the award which is the highest honor presented to a Thomas University student. Berg was one of a record number of 378 students who graduated on Saturday, May 7. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree with majors in both Accounting and Business Management.
Berg was a star player on the TU Men’s Soccer Team, where he was named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He also received TU’s NAIA Champion of Character Award and was a Capital One Academic All-American and All-District recipient. He also received the Daktronics-NAIA Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete Award, Sun Conference Academic All-Conference recognition, and was TSC All-Conference Honorable Mention Award recipient.
With a cumulative grade point average of 3.97, Berg excelled in the classroom as well. His professors touted him as a model student. He served on TU’s Honor Council, a group of students tasked with educating other students about and enforcing TU’s Honor Code. Berg also worked with the AARP helping seniors prepare tax returns and was employed at Publix.
Also during the Honors Reception, three graduating students served as speakers by sharing their stories of transformation during their time at TU. Those students were Eric Persson of Gothenburg, Sweden; Kristel Natasha Avilus of Tallahassee, Fla.; and Alan W. Maples of Leesburg, Ga.
Other awards were presented to the outstanding graduate and undergraduate student in each academic division.
