Community School Program offers free vision, dental, BMI screenings for kids May 21

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Children will have the opportunity to receive free vision, dental and BMI screenings on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Pelican Island Elementary School in an effort to promote the Community School Program.

There will be information available for parents and guardians about career and job opportunities, financial assistance programs, and banking financial options for families. Adults can have their blood pressure readings taken as well.

The Community School event will also have free fruits and vegetables, snacks, juice, water and even groceries will be available while supplies last. There will be activities and demonstrations throughout the day, a performance by the Pelican Island Elementary Drumline, and a raffle for prizes.

The goal of Pelican Island is to be a place of partnerships between the school and other community resources, where resources which integrate academics, health and social services, will be available.
