Alexander H. Giel II, 87, Sebastian

Alexander H. Giel II, 87, of Sebastian, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2016, at Indian River Center, Melbourne.

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Dorothy (Graf) Giel; daughters Michelle (Michael) Daab, of Danbury, Conn., and Monique Giel of The Hague, Netherlands; step-children Victoria, Matthew (Kim), and Thomas Young, of North Carolina, and Dorothy (Robert) St. Cyr of New Hampshire; two grandsons, Mark (Melina) and Tom (Aurelie) Meijer of the Netherlands; and one granddaughter, Maya Giel, of Pennsylvania; seven step-grandchildren; and one brother, Maarten (Lillian) Giel, of the Netherlands.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Alexander Hendrik Giel III, and three brothers, Rob, Karel, and Jan Giel.

Giel was born in Netherlands on Sept. 27, 1928, to Alexander H. and Helena Anna (Verbeek) Giel.

A world traveler, Giel spoke five languages and lived in Indonesia, Africa, and Greece. An accomplished pilot and businessman, his work with International Harvester and Mack Truck included routine travel to five continents. Naturalized in 1966, Giel was very proud of his American citizenship and lived in Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire, before retiring to Sebastian in 2002.

A gentle and sweet man, his loving kindness will forever be remembered.

Arrangements are by Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S. Fleming St., Sebastian. A remembrance service will be held at a later date. In his memory, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (http://www.alz.org) are greatly appreciated.
