Rockwell Simpson Staniford, 96, Vero Beach

Rockwell “Rocky” Simpson Staniford, 96, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully at his home on April 22, 2016.

He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Frances Ingersoll Staniford (Cricket); daughters Carolyn Staniford Sollis, Martha Staniford Myers and Virginia Staniford Reid; grandsons Edwin Bryant Sollis II, Jonathan Gardner Sollis, Alexander Rockwell Reid; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Staniford was a proud WWII veteran serving in the Pacific arena in the United States Coast Guard as Captain of the LST 168. He spent many years in Westhampton Beach, N.Y. and his working life in Rochester, N.Y. where he was an active volunteer and Captain of the Brighton Fire Dept. He retired to Fenwick, Old Saybrook, Conn., and Vero Beach, where he continued playing golf, fishing and playing the piano.

A memorial service will be held this summer in Fenwick, Conn. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to: Save Plum Island www.ctenvironment.org.
