Robert Kersey Sr., 68, of Vero Beach, passed away on April 13, 2016.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha Ann Kersey; son Robert Eugene Kersey, Jr.; daughter Tina Marie Powell; brother Rudolph Kersey Jr.; and his five granddaughters: Kaitlynn, Amber, Megan, Tiffany, and Madison.
Kersey was born in Vero Beach and was a lifelong resident. His parents were Rudolph Kersey, Sr. and Lola Evelyn (Porter) Kersey.
He proudly served his country in Vietnam as a member of the United States Marine Corp. Once he finished serving his country, he began his career as a supervisor for bridge construction for The Murphy Construction Company for a total of 22 years. He also worked in residential construction for many years.
Some of his hobbies included fishing, making his own fishing poles, and camping with the family when his children were younger. Also, he enjoyed being creative with his tools. He took great pride in his knowledge of helping others when it came to mechanical advice. His greatest accomplishments in life were his family and the numerous friends he made throughout the years.
Kersey was a great story teller. He had many, many stories to share and the greatest sense of humor that made everyone laugh.
He and Martha shared a very unique love story from the very beginning of how they met. They became pen pals while he was serving in Vietnam. Through their letters they got to know each other sight unseen for the duration of his military service. Upon his return home their love grew deeper and they began a life together on April 4, 1969.
