INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVBIRC) will be spaying and neutering 200 Indian River County cats for just 25-cents each through the end of February.
The shelter’s “Cats for a Quarter” program is available to any Indian River County resident with cats.
Interested residents must call the Humane Society’s Wellness Clinic at (772) 388-0801 to schedule an appointment.
Cat owners must show proof of county residency when checking in their cat for surgery. The Humane Society is located at 6230 77th St., Vero Beach.
The “Cats for a Quarter” event is held in honor of “Prevent-A-Litter” month, an international campaign to encourage pet owners to spay and neuter their pets.
“Most people don’t realize that an unsterilized cat and her offspring can produce as many as 420,000 cats in seven years,” said Maria Ramirez, the Humane Society’s Director of Operations.
“Like dogs, every cat deserves a loving, caring home. Our goal is to spay and neuter as many cats as possible to end the pet overpopulation problem right here in Indian River County,” she added.
The Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping and protecting the animals of Indian River County. The shelter’s “Cats for a Quarter” promotion is made possible thanks to generous donors throughout the community.
