Missing, endangered elderly man found in Indian River Shores

INDIAN RIVER SHORES — A missing and endangered elderly man from Polk County was located in Indian River Shores Tuesday.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office had been using the man’s cell phone information to track his location, according to Indian River Shores Chief of Police Richard Rosell.

Indian River Shores Sgt. Tim Dempsey spotted a vehicle traveling north on Highway A1A in the 6000 block matching the description of the elderly male’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop to identify the driver, according to authorities. He was assisted by Ofc. Ken Barrett.

The driver was identified as the missing person. During the traffic stop, the male stated he was looking for his house, which is listed as being in Haines City, Florida.

The man was transported to the Indian River Medical Center for evaluation and the vehicle was towed to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office for safekeeping until family members became available to retrieve both the male and his vehicle, according to Chief Rosell.
