Riverwind home a serene retreat for owners and guests

Nancy and Tom Adams wanted to live as close to nature as possible, which is why they designed their custom home built by Regatta Construction in 2010 to flow harmoniously between luxurious indoor living areas and a lush private oasis outside. Walking up to the stunning two-story formal Colonial with Georgian accents you would never guess how spacious of a retreat awaits visitors inside.

Expansive views of the tropical back yard can be seen through a wall of sliding doors that are equipped with pocket sliding screens to keep the view uncluttered and the bugs out. The conservation preserve behind the home ensures the homeowners of continued peace and tranquility, whether sitting on the covered patio or looking from the second-floor balcony over three personal ponds complete with melodious waterfalls and an ambient fire pit.

“It is very relaxing back here,” said Tom Adams who is enjoying his recent retirement from teaching in the Indian River County school system. “You can stand here and not see or hear a soul and what is really cool about Vero is that you really get to enjoy nature” – especially in this particular home, which has a kayak landing just down the street.

Nancy Adams said that since the community has a beautiful private pool and clubhouse there was no need for the family to have one installed, which makes for easier maintenance. She holds workshops next to the soothing ponds, helping prepare patients for surgery and chemotherapy, and says the calming spirit and feeling of tranquility which emanates from the waterscape is very beneficial.

The nearby Indian River Lagoon brings in a cooling breeze enhanced by the outdoor ceiling fans the couple enjoy when they dine outside on the patio. The extensive covered patio area also offers a grill with in-ground propane that is conveniently located just outside the spacious kitchen and casual dining area. A formal dining room is next to the front entry but Nancy, a mixed media artist, is currently taking advantage of the western light by using the space as a studio.

The main living area is a masterpiece of openness, utilizing arched doorways, crown moldings and luxury finishes to flow into the kitchen as it also makes the most of the view. Beyond the spacious kitchen which has all stainless appliances, a gas stove, granite counters and recessed lighting, lies the casual dining area which could easily accommodate a large formal dining table if one wanted to take advantage of the incredible backyard view while dining. Off the kitchen, is the laundry with Frigidaire washer and dryer, handy sink and lots of space for storage – which this house has a ton of throughout.

“There is even a hidden closet under the stairs for strollers, carriers or for hiding presents,” said Nancy. The garage is just off the laundry and has enough extra room for recreational vehicles or golf cart.

On the other side of the entry is a den/office with library shelves, which has a sitting room, two huge walk-in closets and a beautiful bathroom with a roman tub, glass-enclosed shower and separate commode and European bidet area. The master is truly an oasis with a gas fireplace, surround sound, and a picture window custom designed to allow for a perfectly framed view of one of the waterfalls from the bed space.

The second floor is its own separate space full of light from high windows and a back balcony off the loft area. It features a theatre setup with surround sound, a wet bar, large closet and a separate temperature control. The two bedrooms where the Adam’s children lived before they moved away have en suite baths and the larger of the two also has a restful sitting area by the window.

“Without being cliché, this house has really great energy,” said Nancy. “It’s a worry free house.”

What also makes living here desirable are all the extras offered in the private gated community – heated pool with tanning decks overlooking lake, clubhouse, Har-tru tennis court, billiard and media room plus a fitness center – and all for $725,000.
