INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Space Coast Symphony is gearing up for the first Masterworks program of the 2015/16 Season, West Side Story: Bernstein, Fuchs, and Daugherty.
Opening this all-American program is Grammy winning composer, Michael Daugherty’s thrilling “Letters from Lincoln.” Dynamo baritone, Michael John Foster joins the Space Coast Symphony to present one of Daugherty’s best works to date and “one of the finest historically inspired works to come from any American composer in years.”
Daugherty’s texts are taken entirely from Lincoln’s own words and writings and the Great Emancipator’s humor, eloquence, historical insight and fatalism shine through magnificently.
The second half of the concert features Kenneth Fuchs’ brilliant, “An American Place.” Fuchs, a favorite of conductor Aaron Collins, is one of the world’s leading composers and has been hailed as an “exemplar of the recovery of American music.”
“An American Place” was written to express the “brash optimism of the American spirit.” Audiences will immediately connect with Fuchs’ soaring melodies and beautifully direct writing.
Bernstein’s sizzling “Symphonic Dances” from West Side Story complete the musical fireworks of this all American program.
