Joellyn Hoover Tremain, 80, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2015.
She is survived by her husband and their four children; six grandchildren, Rebecca, Otto IV, Leo, Jason, Koa, and Wyatt, and her Brother, Terrence (Terry) R. Hoover.
The daughter of Lester Murray Hoover and Edla Charlotte Johnson Hoover, Tremain, or “Jo” as she was known by family and friends, was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Feb. 18, 1934. In May 1957, she married Rawleigh L. Tremain, Jr. whom she had met while sailing in a Fall Regatta on the Potomac River off of Washington’s, National Airport.
They began life together in Cockburn Town, Grand Turk Island where Rawleigh worked for Pan Am at the nearby Atlantic Missile Range tracking station. It was while on Grand Turk that they had their first child, Rawleigh III, in the small local hospital. Rawleigh’s work required moves from Grand Turk Island to Puerto Rico, Grand Bahama Island, Germany, England, Saudi Arabia, and five different States in the U.S.
The family grew in the early years of their marriage with the births of Tracy, Derek, and Theresa (Terri). A devoted wife and loving mother of more than 57 years, Tremain took pride in being home and available for her family. She met the challenges of work related moves to new locations without complaint, often with short notice, cheerfully and with eager anticipation.
She truly enjoyed experiencing different places, people and cultures whether as a result of Rawleigh’s work or the opportunities for world travel with the members of the family offered by Pan Am. She was a founding member of Christ Church, Vero Beach. Her strong Christian faith prepared and comforted her as she faced the certain end of Alzheimer’s, a disease without known cure.
A service celebrating Jo’s life will be held at Christ Church, 925 14th Lane, Vero Beach, at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Church, or The Alzheimer’s/Parkinson’s Association of Indian River County, 2300 5th Ave., Vero Beach 32960 or, VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
