Arbor Day Foundation dubs Vero Beach a ‘2014 Tree City USA’ community

VERO BEACH — Vero Beach was named a 2014 Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the 34th year Vero Beach has earned the national designation.

Vero Beach achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Cleaner air, improved storm water management, energy savings, and increased property values and commercial activity are among the benefits enjoyed by Tree City USA communities.

On April 24, at 1:30 p.m. the City of Vero Beach and the Vero Beach Tree and Beautification Commission will be planting a tree near the walking trail at Riverside Park located at 3001 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach, to commemorate Arbor Day. The Vero Beach City Council and the schoolchildren from Beachland Elementary School have been invited to participate. All interested parties are cordially welcomed to attend this Arbor Day celebration.
