US Navy Armed Guard, Merchant Marine meeting scheduled for April 18

FELLSMERE — The U.S. Navy Armed Guard and Merchant Marine meeting will be held at Marsh Landing Restaurant, 44 North Broadway, Fellsmere, on April 18, at 9 a.m.

The speaker will be Lieutenant Commander Dan Green, of the U.S. Navy Reserves and the U.S. Special Operations Command. Green was mobilized three times, twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq. He has been in the service for 12 years, has written two books about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and received his PhD in political science from George Washington University in 2012. 

Green grew up in Indian River County and graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1994. His parents still live in the community.

Come and enjoy the camaraderie of old shipmates and meet new people. Everyone is welcome at the meetings and all are encouraged to bring a friend. The group includes members from all branches of the service as well as sons and daughters, widows and widowers of those who served.

The group is looking for a volunteer to help with attendance and handing out name badges.
