Man arrested after ramming car, flipping stolen vehicle

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Authorities arrested a West Melbourne man on Monday after he drove a stolen Chevy TrailBlazer into a stopped and occupied car at a high rate of speed, causing the TrailBlazer to flip and roll over.

The accident happened at the intersection of SR 60 and 90th Ave., as police were pursuing the TrailBlazer for reckless driving westbound on SR 60. At least one officer witnessed the crash that sent the drivers of both cars to the hospital with “non-incapacitating injuries” according to the arrest report.

Kurt Strzesynski, 22, of the 200 block of Monaco Road, in West Melbourne, was detained as he was climbing out of the window of the vehicle that landed on its side in the middle of the intersection.

The TrailBlazer was previously reported stolen out of Brevard County.

Strzesynski allegedly told police he was aware he was driving a stolen vehicle and knew there was a “BOLO” or “be on the lookout” issued for the vehicle, but did not know who the vehicle belonged to, according to the arrest affidavit.

He told investigators his girlfriend told him the keys were hidden under a floor mat; Strzesynski took the car.

Police overheard Strzesynski say he must have been driving 110 miles per hour when he crashed into the stopped car, but Strzesynski told police he was driving 70 miles per hour, the report notes.

Strzesynski is being held in the Indian River County Jail in lieu of $4,000 bond and faces charges including felony grand theft auto, reckless driving, and misdemeanor driving without a driver’s license with knowledge.
