Vero Beach triathlete places first in Port St. Lucie race

VERO BEACH — March 1, 2015 was an excellent day for the Club Med at Sandpiper 2575 Triathlon Championship in Port St. Lucie. In staying true to his reputation as one of Florida’s top ranked Triathletes, Vero Beach native Buddy Verderber’s time of 1:01 for a first place finish in his division put a grin on his face.

The second place finisher in his division finished 21 minutes behind Verderber. In looking at the finish times for all competitors, including 10 professionals, he placed fourth overall in the event.

The former Sebastian River High School swimmer started competing in Triathlon’s while attending the University of Central Florida and joining the TriKnights club team. Since then, the Vero Beach native has earned the rank of three time All American, has placed Top 10 in the ranks of USA Triathlon and been an Ironman 70.3 World Championship Qualifier.

In 2013, Verderber was a member of Team USA and competed in the International Triathlon Union World Championship in London, England and qualified for the ITU World Championship in 2014. This year, he looks forward to competing in the USAT National Championship being held in Milwaukee, Wis., and the ITU World Championship in Chicago, Ill.

Upcoming races for Verderber are March 29, the HITS Olympic Triathlon in Ocala, April 26th the St. Anthony’s Triathlon in St. Petersburg, and near and dear to his heart after losing his friend to Leukemia, on May 17 he will be home for the LLS Conquistadors Sprint Triathlon in Vero Beach.
