Yale Spizzwinks humorous a cappella group to perform March 11

VERO BEACH — The Yale Spizzwinks are America’s first and oldest underclassman a cappella group. Since 1914, they have entertained audiences around the world with their unique blend of sweet harmony and tongue-in-cheek humor.

The group of musical young men will make a stop in Indian River County and teach a master class sponsored by the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra for Vero Beach High School students on Wednesday, March 11. At 7:30 p.m. on the same evening, the lighthearted singers will perform a free concert for students and the general public at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street, 32960. Students from the master class will join the group on stage for the final number.

The choir was formed over 100 years ago to provide audiences with a light-hearted alternative to the Whiffenpoofs, Yale’s older, all-senior a cappella group.

Tickets to the free performance are required and may be ordered through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or by calling toll free to 855-252-7276.

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director and Conductor, Aaron T. Collins, is delighted to sponsor the Yale Spizzwinks in their free Vero Beach performance. “These guys are just phenomenal,” Collins said. “They have incredible voices and way too much fun entertaining audiences. The group’s roots date back over 100 years, but there’s nothing old fashioned about the talent and vitality of these young singers.”
