Vero Beach to keep electric rates same, for now

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach City Council agreed Tuesday night to keep its electric rates where they are, at least until a rate study is completed next month.

City Manager Jim O’Connor made the recommendation to hold electric rates and Council supported it, though no vote was taken.

The Vero Beach electric utility ended 2014 with a $640,000 surplus, according to O’Connor.

He said that so long as the rate remains sufficient, he does not anticipate making any changes to rates until the rate study is completed. O’Connor said that should occur sometime in March.
