This week’s featured home is located in peaceful Kingswood Estates, a subdivision made up of 49 custom-built homes in a gracious area known to locals as “Doctors Row,” very close to 58th Avenue, with all of its shopping and dining options.
The 4-bedroom, 3-bath, 2,353-square-foot ranch-style home is offered by David Mutters of Coldwell Banker Paradise for $413,900.
Betty and Keith Gordon, the jet setters who own this solid stucco ranch house, have been married for 27 years, and have lived out a whirlwind romance on a worldwide stage. The couple met in Tahiti; Keith proposed marriage in Vancouver; they married in Sydney, Australia and honeymooned in Africa!
Betty is from Jacksonville, Florida and worked for Pan Am and as a travel agent before she retired. Keith, a pilot, is from Australia and had a long aviation career before retiring from Quantas Airlines.
Throughout their lives as a married couple, they have amassed loads of exciting experiences in many countries. They have made friends all over the world and have brought home beautiful souvenirs from their travels.
When they finally decided to settle down, the Gordons visited friends in Vero Beach, and knew immediately that this was the place for them. Betty owned a travel agency in Ryanwood Shopping Center, and Keith became a ground instructor for Flight Safety.
The couple purchased this lovely house in 2001, and Keith, an accomplished handyman, went to work on improving their home. The house is a one-story ranch-style with a flowing floor plan and manicured landscaping. It is move-in ready.
The home sits on a lush, green lawn with a yard full of shrubs and trees. The driveway and walkway to the front entry are made up of gorgeous brick pavers arranged in an intricate pattern that helps create a sense of anticipation and arrival.
The front door leads into the formal carpeted living room and dining room, with vaulted ceilings that give the home a light, airy feeling. Wall niches add to the interest of the room.
The clean white kitchen is the perfect spot for entertaining a crowd, with counters and seating that allow guests to hang out and chat with the cook.
“This house is fabulous for entertaining,” said Betty. “We have had 45 people sit down for Christmas dinner here for the past ten years and it has never felt crowded. I can be in there cooking, but I can still be with my guests.”
The kitchen, with four storage pantries, overhead and track lighting fixtures, and a functional counter, looks into the spacious great room with an intimate eating area and a view of the pool. The floors throughout the first floor are ivory-colored tile, low maintenance and lovely.
Adjoining the kitchen is a large family area with doors leading to the pool enclosure.
The screened-in pool and hot tub spa are heated with solar panels, and the patio, also screened, is a peaceful, shaded spot to relax and enjoy a glass of iced tea. There is a convenient entrance to the laundry room, where wet children can dry off before entering the main parts of the house.
Next to the laundry is a nice-size bonus room that could be an office or guest room.
The spacious three-car garage is at this end of the house, as well. One bay of the garage is air conditioned, and this is where Keith Gordon works his meticulous home maintenance magic.
“This is his man cave,” laughed Betty.
The master bedroom suite is carpeted and has a set of sliding glass doors leading to the pool area. It also has high ceilings and a ceiling fan. The master bathroom has double sinks, a walk-in shower, a water closet, a jetted bath tub and attractive tile floors.
The Gordons take advantage of all that Vero Beach has to offer. Both like to eat out, but Betty loves to cook for Keith after all of his years traveling and eating in restaurants. One of the attractive things about the house is how close it is to restaurants and shops. Indian River State College is a walkable distance away, Interstate 95 is close and the beach is a 15 minute ride.
The Gordons are going to stay local, but downsize a bit.
“We love Vero,” said Betty. “We are not going anywhere.”
